1. Bokor Mountain

Bokor Mountain can be found on the southern tip of the Elephant Mountains in southern Cambodia. It is well known for its cool weather on the top of the mountains and French colonial hill station. 

In this area, you will find lots of mountains, jungles, rivers, and waterfalls. The diverse and lush landscape makes it the perfect place to go bird-watching, and you will come across many different species of birds there. 

One such bird you will find at Bokor Mountain is the Chestnut-headed Partridge, which can be found in abundance in this highland forest area.

2. Siem Pang

Siem Pang is a remote area that is home to the Siem Pang National Park in Cambodia. Here, you will find 5 critically endangered bird species, and because they are so critically endangered, you won’t really find them anywhere else. 

Siem Pang is also home to the critically endangered Giant Ibis, which also happens to be Cambodia’s national bird. You will also find plenty of White-shouldered Ibis here because Siem Pang is where you will find the largest population count of these particular birds. 

Siem Pang is an incredibly beautiful area and it provides the perfect habitat for many amazing birds to live in. It’s one of those places that really has to be seen to be believed and when you do see it for the first time, you will be in absolute awe! 

3. Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in Mondulkiri, Cambodia, the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary is an expansive sanctuary that is made up of evergreen and semi-evergreen forests to make an absolutely beautiful area where many birds call home. 

There is a lot more going on at the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary as well, so you won’t just be limited to birds. There is plenty of wildlife to see here, including lots of mammals, especially Gibbons. 

You can even spend the night here at the Jahoo Gibbon Camp, which will really immerse you in the natural setting of the area.

4. Phnom Aural

Phnom Aural is actually the highest peak in all of Cambodia. It reaches a height of 18113 meters above sea level and it can be found right in the heart of the central Cardamom Mountains. 

Because it is such a unique environment, you will find plenty of birds and views here that would not normally be accessible anywhere else.

One of the most unique birds you can find here is the Cambodian Laughing thrush, which is one of 2 endemic bird species that can be found in Cambodia.

Altogether, around 200 bird species have been recorded in this area, so it really is a bird watcher’s paradise. Phnom Aural is definitely a high-interest area for anyone who is interested in bird watching and you will find some absolutely amazing and beautiful birds in the whole area.

5. Tmatboey

Tmatboey can be found in the Northern Plains, Cambodia and it is one of the best places to go bird watching in the whole country. You will find lots of incredibly rare and endangered species of birds here, and it is actually the key site for Cambodia’s national bird: the critically endangered Giant Ibis. 

If you do decide to visit Tmatboey it is advised to do an overnight trip. This is because there are lots of nocturnal species of birds in the area and most of them can’t be found anywhere else.

Plus, an overnight stay gives you more time to explore the area at your own pace and you won’t have to rush around trying to see all the birds.

6. Florican Grasslands

The Florican Grasslands can be found in Kamtrach, Cambodia. This location is actually home to over half the world’s population of critically endangered Bengal Floricans, so if you want to see this species for yourself, this is the perfect place to visit. 

This area is made up of a large floodplain and grasslands that border the Tonle Sap Lake, which makes it the perfect environment for bird watching.
